Jesus Power Assembly of God Church (JPAGC) is a bible-based and predominantly immigrant Church founded by Pastor Bismark Osei Akomeah. In response to divine call, Rev Bismark Akomeah moved from Houston Texas and relocated in Columbus Ohio in June 2001; to establish the church; with his wife, Mrs. Linda Akomeah and his children, Daniella, Bismark Jr. Miriam as founding members. The basement of Pastor Bismark’s apartment on 3445 Greenwich Street served as the Fellowship hall and thus became the birthplace of Jesus Power Assembly of God Church.
Three months later the church was moved to a location by the Church of the Living Word, Westerville, Ohio with membership rising to 27. Among them were Deacon Henkel Addo, Sister Tina Pinamang West and her daughter Sheila Acquaye, Mr. Kwasi Ampaabeng and Pastor Kwadwo Ababio and wife. The church was also blessed to have Rev. Ofosu Atta coming in to support the efforts of Rev. Bismark & Mrs. Linda Akomeah, as Associate Pastor.
The hand of God was mightily upon his servant Pastor Bismark and miracles, healings, sign and wonders were evident during church services. Barely a year later, God added to the number and our membership grew bigger than the building as people heard of what God was using Pastor Bismark to do. The rapid expansion of our membership forced the church to be moved to the auditorium of Brookhaven High School located on Karl Road, Columbus, while awaiting the completion of our own sanctuary at 5215 Cleveland Avenue (present location). The property costing about $1million had 10,000sf office building and a 280 seating capacity sanctuary. In September 2003, the new sanctuary was dedicated amidst praise and jubilation.
In September, 2005, Pastor Bismark was ordained as a Reverend Minister by the Ohio District Council of Assemblies of God. JPAGC is among the 14 declared as Transformational Churches. Pastor Bismark’s passion for souls and the desire to expand the kingdom of God urged him to plant churches in Atlanta, Georgia; Cincinnati, Ohio; the Swahili and French churches, among others. So from a humble beginning with family members, we are proud to have about 600 actively growing membership of men and women; and about 200 children from many nations: Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Tanzania, Haiti, St Lucia, the Caribbean, and the United States. This appreciable growth, which has resulted from our impressive yearly internal programs and vigorous outreach campaigns is overstretching our 280 seating capacity sanctuary, making it necessary to build a bigger one-Glory Temple-seating 1,500 people.
The leadership put in motion plans to source for funding and the contractors to execute the project. God made a way, in time of economic recession, for AG Finance to accept to finance the project, after due diligence was performed. In April 2009, sod-cutting ceremony was jointly performed by Rev. Bismark & Mrs. Linda Akomeah and Dr. Allen of Midwest Construction, with the enthusiastic church members observing, for work on the project to commence. The project was completed on schedule, and on April 25, 2010 exactly one year, the multipurpose Glory Temple with seating capacity of 1500 was dedicated to the glory of God. The grand opening and the dedication ceremony which attracted people from all walks of life was performed by Rev. Dr. George Wood, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Worldwide, and a host of Ministers of God from USA, Africa, and Europe.
Jesus Power has a dynamic Church Board, which steer the affairs of the church.
